Objective of the role
As an Engineering Manager, you play a pivotal leadership role in managing and developing the engineering department. Your responsibilities encompass building a high performing teams, overseeing and developing people, projects, sales opportunities, quality control, while fostering collaboration across teams. With a strong focus on operational efficiency and technical excellence, you ensure that the department operates effectively and upholds TWD’s values of ownership and accountability.
Your role involves optimizing work planning and project execution to ensure smooth operations and successful project delivery. You actively drive business growth by identifying and capitalizing on sales and project opportunities. A key aspect of your leadership is developing and mentoring Lead Engineers and team members, equipping them with the skills and support needed to thrive.
Maintaining high-quality standards in engineering and project management is a critical responsibility, ensuring that all deliverables meet industry and client expectations. Additionally, you define and implement education and recruitment strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent. Through collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, you contribute to building a strong, engaged, and high-performing engineering team.
Responsibilities
Group Management
-Translate corporate strategy into the engineering group’s strategy.
-Define and maintain a clear group organogram.
-Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
-Manage the well-being and motivation of team members.
-Oversee financial and legal topics relevant to the group.
-Ensure clear communication of key decisions and information.
-Promote knowledge sharing and best practices within the department.
-Report group status to the Management Team.
-Continuously evaluate and improve group performance.
Quality Management
-Develop and refine quality systems in collaboration with the quality group.
-Identify smarter methods to enhance efficiency and maintain competitiveness.
-Advise and support Lead Engineers and Project Engineers on technical challenges.
Project Management
-Provide guidance and support to Lead Engineers in all aspects of project management.
-Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Sales & Business Development
-Identify and communicate sales and business development opportunities.
-Convert opportunities into tangible projects.
-Monitor client satisfaction and maintain strong client relationships.
-Oversee workload availability and proactively address gaps.
-Collaborate with the Sales team and other groups to allocate projects and resources.
-Maintain regular contact with existing clients and explore new business opportunities.
-Review and support the preparation of quotations and proposals.
Supervision & Development of Lead Engineers
-Support the growth and professional development of Lead Engineers.
-Provide mentorship, feedback, and training opportunities.
-Ensure clear career paths and progression opportunities.
-Act as a role model by demonstrating ownership and accountability.
-Motivate and inspire the engineering team to achieve excellence.
-Promote an innovative and problem-solving mindset.
Education and Training
-Define and execute a structured education and training plan for engineers, in alignment with Technical Advisors and Principle Advisors.
-Align training initiatives with business needs and industry developments.
-Promote a learning culture within the organization.
Collaboration & Teamwork
-Foster a culture of collaboration and cooperation between different engineering groups.
-Ensure effective teamwork and cross-functional alignment.
Personal Development
-Continuously develop leadership and technical skills.
-Stay updated with industry trends and advancements.
-Seek feedback and actively work on self-improvement.
Qualifications (education and technical knowledge/expertise)
Technical Skills:
-Strong engineering background.
-Expertise in project management principles and methodologies.
-Knowledge of quality management systems and process improvement.
-Experience with business development within an engineering environment.
-Financial and legal understanding relevant to engineering projects.
